Rubin Stacy was hung from a pine tree on July 19, 1935. No man or woman was convicted for his death. Soon after, the NAACP released a pamphlet charging us to "not look at the negro" for "his earthly problems are ended." What we must do however, is look at the "white children who gaze at this gruesome spectacle."
Rubin is dead, but what became of the people who watched him die?
